Longtime Alaskan and Homer resident, Geraldine Lenore Faller, 93, passed away at her residence at Nordic Living, Assisted Living Facility on June 27, 2021.

Born in Hudson, Wisconsin, to Eleanor Carmion Wasson (nee Larson/Larsen) and Gerald Wasson, she had a very adventurous life, which led her to live in Homer, Alaska – a place and people she loved so very much.

In 1958, she and her husband, Steve Faller, packed their belongings and their daughter and relocated from California to Anchorage, Alaska.

She initially worked creating maps of Alaska at BLM where she was employed when the Great Earthquake of 1964 hit. One of her favorite memories was of how the people of Anchorage came together and helped each other following the damage. She and Steve were the only house in their neighborhood with a generator, and that is how they ended up with about 20 people sleeping over. Everyone brought food and camped out. In the late 1960s, she worked at National Bank of Alaska in Anchorage.

In 1970, she and Steve relocated to a small cabin in Halibut Cove, and loved the life of commercial fishing on their vessel, the Balboa, wintering over in Homer until building their house on Kachemak Way and settling here permanently in 1980.

Geri was a member of the Emblem Club, joining through the Anchorage Lodge in 1966 and later the Homer Lodge. She took great pride in the scholarship and other philanthropic activities of the Homer Emblem Club. She loved traveling across the state and nation to conventions with her friends. She especially loved the weekly bingo games!

In her young adult life, she loved entertaining friends at her home, knitting and sewing clothes for her daughter and grandchildren, reading, playing cribbage and “Spite and Malice.”

She is survived by her son-in-law, Don Armstrong, of Holualoa, Hawaii; her grandchildren, Carmion (Bill) Fuhrman, of Paris, Tennessee; Kim (Eric) Caley, of Surprise, Arizona; James (Teryl) Armstrong, of Anchorage; 12 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and many precious friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Carmion Leona Wasson; her husband, Steve Faller; her daughter, Carmion Lee Armstrong; and her grandson, Robert Armstrong.

In keeping with her wishes, her remains have been interred at Hickerson Memorial Cemetery on Diamond Ridge Road with her mother, husband, as well as her beloved puppy, Schatzi. No services will be held.
